Do TAG Heuer watches hold their value? Some models much better than others:
- Most modern TAG Heuers resell for about half their new price or less. A Carrera Chronograph costing £6,200 new was offered certified pre-owned at £3,450 in September 2026.

Retail, private sale, auction or dealer: which price is yours?
The same watch has four different prices depending on who is selling to whom. Knowing which one you are looking at saves a lot of disappointment.

Which TAG Heuer models hold their value best?
Among modern TAG Heuers, the chronographs with a proper motorsport story hold up best, and quartz and smart watches lose the most. Automatic always beats quartz on resale.
The square 1969 design worn by Steve McQueen, and the strongest modern resale in the range.
The core of the range since 1963. A two-year-old 39mm model was offered at just over half its new price in September 2026. Calibre 16 versions are the entry point.
Heritage re-editions with collector appeal. Values depend closely on the reference and edition.
Popular and easy to sell, but made in large numbers, so values are moderate. Automatic Calibre 5 versions are worth more than quartz.
Integrated bracelet watch with steady demand. Automatic models sit above quartz.
The weakest resale. Quartz Formula 1 models trade at a fraction of the new price, and smartwatches date as the technology moves on.

What moves your TAG Heuer up or down its range
Two watches with the same reference can be hundreds of pounds apart. These are the things we look at.
The reference sets the range. Automatic chronographs sit at the top, quartz at the bottom.
Sharp, unpolished edges are worth real money. Heavy polishing removes metal and cannot be undone.
The warranty card dates the watch and proves where it came from. A complete set sits at the top of its range.
Recent service papers help. An overdue service is priced in, it does not stop a sale.
A full bracelet with all its spare links is worth more than a cut-down one or an aftermarket strap.
A watch that does not run is still worth selling. Tell us rather than paying to fix it first.
Two things cost owners money before a sale. A service costs several hundred pounds and rarely comes back in the price. Polishing the case removes metal and rounds the lugs permanently. If you are thinking of selling, do nothing to the watch.
How to identify your TAG Heuer
The reference number
The reference is engraved on the caseback of modern TAG Heuers, for example CAR2110 or WAY201A. The letters identify the family and the numbers the version. As a rule, a reference that starts with C is a chronograph and one that starts with W is a three-hand watch: CBN2011 is a Carrera chronograph, WBN2112 a Carrera three-hand.

Heuer or TAG Heuer?
Watches made before 1985 are signed Heuer. That year the TAG group bought the company and the name became TAG Heuer. LVMH has owned it since 1999. The dial signature is the quickest way to tell a vintage piece from a modern one.
The year
There is no public serial number chart for TAG Heuer, so the warranty card or service papers are the best evidence of the year. If you have neither, send us the reference and serial and we will date it for you.

Vintage Heuer: a different market
Heuer chronographs made before 1985 are collected in their own right, and the best reach figures no modern TAG Heuer approaches. The Carrera (1963), Autavia (1962) and Monaco (1969) are the names that matter.
What is written above the date window on a Heuer Monaco 1133B?
On the standard production 1133B the dial reads Heuer, Monaco, Automatic Chronograph and Swiss, with the date at 6 o'clock and "Automatic Chronograph" across the lower dial above it. The first dials of 1969 read "Chronomatic" instead. Heuer dropped the name within months because buyers did not recognise it as an automatic chronograph, and the name went to Breitling. Dials from the changeover are known as transitional dials.
The dial matters to value. The Heuer Price Guide puts a standard production 1133B at roughly £3,500 to £4,500 in average condition and £10,500 to £13,000 in mint condition, while a Chronomatic dial runs from £15,000 to £20,000 average to £47,500 or more mint. The Monaco uses the Calibre 11, one of the first automatic chronograph movements, developed with Breitling, Hamilton-Buren and Dubois-Depraz.
Provenance changes everything. The Monaco Steve McQueen wore in Le Mans sold at Phillips for $2.2 million in 2020, and another Le Mans-connected Monaco made $640,000 at Sotheby's in June 2026. If your watch has a story, keep every document that proves it.
Early Carrera references such as the 2447 have sold at auction for roughly £3,400 to £8,800 in 2025 and 2026, depending on dial and condition. Vintage values depend on originality: a replaced dial, hands or pushers can halve them. See also selling a vintage watch.

What does it say above the date window on a Heuer Monaco 1133B?
On the standard production 1133B, Automatic Chronograph is printed across the lower dial above the date window at 6 o'clock. The first 1969 dials read Chronomatic instead, and transitional dials come from the changeover.
Where is the reference number on a TAG Heuer?
