How platinum is priced
Platinum trades on the global market in pounds per troy ounce (the XPTGBP figure in the chart above). A troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so to get the price per gram you divide the spot price by 31.1035 — then multiply by the purity of your piece. UK jewellery platinum is usually 950 (95% pure), so it's worth 95% of the pure per-gram figure; bullion is 999.
To confirm your piece really is platinum and what purity, see our guides to platinum hallmarks and platinum vs white gold. When you're ready to sell, our sell your platinum jewellery page explains the process. You can also track the live gold price and live silver price.

Is platinum worth more than gold?
It varies with the market — historically platinum has often traded near or above gold, though that relationship changes. Check the live chart here against our live gold price page to compare on any given day.
