Dedicated Buyers of Georgian Jewellery — All Periods, All Styles

Georgian jewellery — made during the reigns of Kings George I through George IV and William IV (1714–1837) — represents the earliest period of collectable antique jewellery. These pieces were handmade long before industrialisation, and every example is unique. Their rarity, craftsmanship and historical resonance make them among the most sought-after pieces in the antique jewellery market.

At Mozeris Fine Antiques, we are passionate collectors and expert buyers of all forms of Georgian jewellery: paste and foil-back pieces, rose-cut diamond rings in closed silver settings, cannetille gold parures, seed pearl mourning jewellery, and portrait miniature brooches. We pay prices that reflect the true collector market.

We offer free valuations at our Braintree, Essex showroom and our Mayfair, London office — always by private appointment. Call or email us with photos and we will respond the same day.

The Georgian Jewellery Periods

Understanding which period your piece is from helps identify its style and potential value

Early Georgian

1714 – 1760

Heavy, architectural gold pieces, baroque pearls, intricate stone settings. Influenced by Continental Baroque and Rococo styles. Exceptional rarity.

Mid Georgian

1760 – 1800

Neoclassical influences: cameos, intaglios, paste parures, foil-backed gem stones, portrait miniatures set in gold lockets and brooches.

Late Georgian / Regency

1800 – 1820

Cannetille gold filigree wirework, seed pearls, emeralds, topaz and amethyst in elaborate parures. Influenced by Napoleon and Classical Antiquity.

Late Regency / William IV

1820 – 1837

Transition to Victorian styles: larger gem stones, more elaborate settings, beginning of Romantic sentiment jewellery including hair and mourning pieces.

Georgian Jewellery We Actively Buy

All categories of Georgian jewellery purchased — signed and unsigned, damaged and perfect

Rose-Cut Diamond Rings

Old mine-cut and rose-cut diamonds in closed silver and gold settings, often with foil backing to enhance brilliance. The quintessential Georgian ring form, highly collectible.

Paste & Foil-Back Jewellery

Georgian paste jewellery (leaded glass simulating gems) set in silver with foil backing was made to the highest standards and is intensely collected today. We pay strong prices for intact examples.

Cannetille & Gold Parures

Regency-era cannetille gold filigree wirework parures — necklaces, earrings, brooches and bracelets in matching sets — are among the most decorative jewellery ever made.

Mourning & Memorial Jewellery

Black jet and glass mourning pieces, seed pearl memorial brooches, lockets containing hair, and portrait miniature lockets — sentimental Georgian pieces with extraordinary historical depth.

Portrait Miniatures

Watercolour portrait miniatures on ivory set in gold and pinchbeck lockets and brooches — Georgian society portraits which have significant value as both jewellery and works of art.

Cameos & Intaglios

Shell, hardstone and lava cameos in gold and pinchbeck frames, and intaglio gem seals in gold rings — Neoclassical pieces popular from the 1760s onward.

Georgian Jewellery FAQs

Common questions from those selling Georgian jewellery

How do I know if my jewellery is genuinely Georgian?
Genuine Georgian jewellery (1714–1837) will typically have hand-made settings with slightly uneven proportions, rose-cut or old mine-cut diamonds in silver or gold, foil backings on closed-back settings, and evidence of hand-engraving. Georgian pieces predate machine-made jewellery and have a distinctive handcrafted quality. Send us photos and we can help identify the period.
Is paste jewellery valuable?
Yes. Georgian paste jewellery is genuinely collectable and often surprisingly valuable. The finest paste — leaded glass cut and set to simulate diamonds, emeralds and rubies — was made to the highest standards, and intact Georgian paste parures with original foil backing are actively sought by collectors worldwide.
My Georgian piece has hair inside — is this a problem?
Not at all. Mourning and memorial jewellery containing hair is a distinct and collected category of Georgian jewellery. The hair compartment, together with any inscription and portrait miniature, adds to the historical interest and value of the piece.
Georgian pieces often lack hallmarks — does this matter?
Many Georgian pieces — especially those made before 1784 or of non-standard weights — were not hallmarked. The absence of hallmarks does not mean a piece is not gold or silver. Our experts can test metal purity and assess period using construction and stylistic evidence.
Is pinchbeck valuable?
Pinchbeck (a copper-zinc alloy resembling gold, invented by Christopher Pinchbeck c.1720) was a legitimate luxury material in the Georgian period, not a cheap substitute. Quality Georgian pinchbeck pieces — especially paste-set ones — are collectible and we do buy them.
