Where to sell jewellery in London

Our London appointments take place at 47 Maddox Street, Mayfair, W1S 2PG, by arrangement only. There is no shop counter: you book a time, sit down with our specialist, and go through your jewellery piece by piece. Many clients bring a whole jewellery box, often inherited, and we are happy to look at everything, from a single ring to a collection. If coming into central London does not suit you, we arrange a free FedEx collection from home, or you can post by Royal Mail Special Delivery. Our Braintree office in Essex also sees clients by appointment.

The jewellery we buy

  • Antique jewellery. Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco rings, brooches, lockets, bracelets and necklaces, including mourning jewellery, cameos and old-cut diamonds.
  • Vintage jewellery. Retro gold of the 1940s, and 1950s to 1980s cocktail rings, gold bracelets and signed modernist pieces.
  • Diamond jewellery. Engagement and eternity rings, earrings, pendants and line bracelets.
  • Gemstone jewellery. Sapphire, ruby, emerald, opal, pearl and coloured stone pieces.
  • Signed and designer jewellery. Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany, Bulgari, Boucheron and British makers such as Grima and Kutchinsky.
  • Gold and silver jewellery, including pieces that need repair.

Valued as jewellery, not as metal

A jewellery box often holds pieces of very different kinds: a Victorian brooch, a signed bracelet, a diamond ring and a tangle of broken chains. They should not be valued the same way. We identify each piece first, read its hallmarks and maker's marks, look at the stones and the workmanship, and value it as what it is. Only pieces that are genuinely beyond wearing are valued as scrap, and we tell you which ones they are.

Free, no obligation, returned at our cost if you decline.

Free jewellery valuation in London

You can have your jewellery valued free in two ways: book a Mayfair appointment and bring it in, or send photographs and details from home. Either way, we look at each piece, tell you what it is, and give you an estimate, subject to inspection, with no obligation to sell. Photograph valuations come back within one working day. For a full explanation of how we value jewellery, see our jewellery valuation page.

Why sell your jewellery to us

  • Specialist knowledge. We buy antique, vintage, signed and modern jewellery every week, and value pieces by period and maker.
  • Piece-by-piece valuation. So a good jewel is never priced as scrap.
  • Discretion. Private appointments, no queue, no shop window.
  • Same-day payment after inspection by bank transfer or in cash, once you accept.
  • No obligation. If you change your mind, your jewellery is returned at our cost.

Selling without a box, papers or a certificate

Most of the jewellery we buy arrives with no box, no receipt and no certificate, particularly inherited pieces. We check each piece ourselves: the hallmarks and maker's marks, the stones, the construction and the condition. If you do have boxes, certificates or old receipts, bring them, because a fitted case or a certificate adds to the story of a piece. We ask for photo ID and proof of address when we buy.

What to photograph for an accurate jewellery valuation

  1. The whole piece, front on

In daylight, on a plain background.

  2. The signature and serial

Close up and in focus, so every letter reads.

  3. The marks and fittings

Hallmarks, 750 or 925, clasps and screws.

  4. Any box, papers or receipt

Helpful, but we buy without them too.

Questions about selling jewellery

Where can I sell jewellery in London?

By appointment at our Mayfair address, 47 Maddox Street, London W1S 2PG, where we go through your jewellery piece by piece. You can also send it by Royal Mail Special Delivery or book a free FedEx collection from home. We have an office in Braintree, Essex, too. You are paid the same day after inspection.

Do you buy antique and vintage jewellery, not just modern?

Yes. Antique and vintage jewellery is a large part of what we buy: Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco pieces, Retro gold, mid-century cocktail rings and signed modernist work, as well as modern diamond, gemstone and designer jewellery. Each piece is valued by its period, maker, stones and condition.

How much is my jewellery worth?

It depends on what each piece is: its period and maker, the stones, the workmanship, and its condition and overall quality. We do not quote a figure before we have seen it. Book a Mayfair appointment or send photographs for a free valuation, with a reply within one working day and no obligation.

Can I get a free jewellery valuation in London?

Yes. Book an appointment at our Mayfair address and we will value your jewellery with you there, free and with no obligation to sell. If you would rather not travel, send photographs and details from home and we will reply with an estimate within one working day.

Do I need the box, papers or a certificate?

No. Most jewellery we buy has none of them. We check each piece ourselves, from the hallmarks and maker's marks to the stones and construction. Boxes, certificates and receipts are welcome and add to the history of a piece, so bring them if you have them, but they are never required.

How fast do I get paid?

You are paid the same day after inspection, once a price is agreed, by bank transfer or in cash. At a Mayfair appointment that happens while you are with us. Jewellery sent by Special Delivery or collected by FedEx is inspected on arrival and paid for that day. If you decline, it is returned at our cost.

Is it discreet?

Yes. London appointments are private and by arrangement, at our Mayfair address with no shopfront and no queue. Collections from home are arranged directly with you, and we never discuss what you sell with anyone else. Many clients come to us when settling a relative's estate, and we understand the care that needs.

Do you buy whole jewellery boxes and inherited collections?

Yes. We are happy to look at everything in a jewellery box or an inherited collection, from fine pieces to costume jewellery and broken gold. We sort it with you, value each piece that merits it individually, and tell you which items have little value, so you can decide what to keep.
