Sell Your Silver in York

York is one of England's most historic silver towns. It had a working assay office from medieval times until 1858, and genuine York-marked silver, relatively scarce compared with London or Birmingham output, is prized by collectors today. Beyond its own makers, York's elegant Georgian and Victorian houses were filled with fine silver from across the country. If you've inherited a tea service, a canteen of cutlery, presentation pieces or antique silver of any kind, Mozeris Fine Antiques will value and buy it: free FedEx collection from any York address, valuations within one working day and same-day payment.

We're a family-run firm of antique and precious-metal specialists who read hallmarks for a living, including the scarce York marks. Most of our York sellers handle the whole sale from home; we arrange a free, tracked FedEx collection, verify your silver at our office, and pay the same day. For larger collections we offer by-appointment valuations.

We Buy Silver From York and Across the UK

We buy all genuine silver: sterling and Britannia standard, antique and modern, English and continental. That includes tea and coffee services, trays and salvers, candlesticks and candelabra, canteens of cutlery and individual flatware, christening mugs and presentation pieces, sauce boats, entrée dishes, cigarette and vesta cases, photograph frames and small collectables, plus silver coins and scrap. Genuine York-assayed pieces in particular can be keenly collected, so never sell good silver as scrap without a specialist opinion.

Understanding the York Hallmark

York's town mark changed over the centuries: earlier work used a variation of a half leopard's head and half fleur-de-lis, while later pieces (to 1858) carry a cross bearing five lions passant: the arms of the city. Alongside the town mark you'll find the standard mark, a date letter and the maker's mark. Because the York office closed in 1858 and genuine York silver is uncommon, correct identification matters enormously to value. Send clear photos of the marks and we'll tell you the office, period, maker and standard before quoting.
