Taylor Swift: the old mine cut
Taylor Swift's ring, revealed in August 2025, is an old mine brilliant cut diamond in yellow gold by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, as the Associated Press reported that month. The full story, the wedding band and what a stone like it costs are on our Taylor Swift engagement ring page.
What these rings have in common
Side by side, the rings share six patterns, which match the search data on our engagement ring trends for 2026 page.
Zoë Kravitz and Madison Beer both chose them, and Taylor Swift's old mine cut is the same family: a softly squared stone, longer than it is wide.
Lady Gaga, Georgina Rodríguez and Aryna Sabalenka. An oval spreads its weight across a long face, so it looks larger than a round stone of the same weight.
Kravitz's bezel and Swift's ring are both yellow gold, and Princess Alexandra's yellow diamond sits in yellow gold claws.
Rodríguez and Princess Alexandra both wear trilogies, the classic three stone ring.
A yellow diamond, pink diamonds in a band, emerald accents: colour added without giving up a diamond centre.
Dove Cameron's Asscher cut in a halo: a cut patented in 1902 and widely used in the Art Deco years.
How big is 10 carats, really?
Carat is a weight (one carat is 0.2 grams), not a size, so a stone's spread depends on its cut. As a guide, a well-cut round brilliant is about 6.5 mm across at 1 carat, and the width grows with the cube root of the weight: a 10 carat stone is only a little over twice as wide as a 1 carat stone.
That is why estimates vary: from photographs, the four jewellers JCK asked about Madison Beer's ring ranged from 5 to 12 carats.
Get the look with an antique or vintage ring
Every one of these styles has an older original, usually at a more everyday size. Four of them, each beside a ring from our own collection:

The elongated cushion: look for an old mine cut
Zoë Kravitz, Madison Beer and Taylor Swift all wear a softly squared stone. Its antique original is the old mine cut, Georgian to late Victorian: a cushion outline, high crown, small table and often a visible culet. See old mine cut diamonds.

The bezel: look for a gypsy or rubover setting
Kravitz's stone sits in a smooth gold rim. Victorian and Edwardian gypsy rings sink the stone into the band in the same spirit. See gypsy setting and rubover setting.

The trilogy: look for a Victorian three stone
Georgina Rodríguez and Princess Alexandra both chose three stones. Victorian and Edwardian three stone rings use old European cut diamonds, often with a coloured centre. See three stone engagement rings.

The Asscher: look for an Art Deco step cut
Dove Cameron's square step cut was patented in Amsterdam in 1902 and became an Art Deco signature. Look for emerald and Asscher cuts in platinum with millegrain edges. See the emerald cut and Art Deco jewellery.
And the rest
- Big ovals (Gaga, Rodríguez, Sabalenka): the modern oval brilliant is credited to Lazare Kaplan in 1957, so look at vintage oval solitaires. See solitaire engagement rings.
- Coloured accents (Sabalenka, Gaga, Princess Alexandra): Victorian to 1950s gem and diamond rings. See coloured gemstone engagement rings.
- Old cuts in yellow gold (Swift): Victorian solitaires and clusters. See yellow gold engagement rings.

What drives the price of a ring like these

The jewellers quoted above work from the same checklist any valuer uses:
- Carat weight. Price per carat rises with size, because large rough diamonds are rarer.
- Colour and clarity. Colourless and clean is worth far more. Fancy colours are priced on how strong and rare the colour is.
- Cut. Decides how bright the stone looks. Old cuts are judged on their own terms.
- Certificate. Fixes the grade. Without one, every figure above is an estimate.
- Maker and provenance. A famous owner can add a great deal.
Elizabeth Taylor's 33.19 carat Asscher cut diamond sold at Christie's New York in December 2011 for $8,818,500. See also how much to spend on an engagement ring and diamond shapes.
