Gypsy Setting

A gypsy setting sinks the stone flush into the metal of the band — tough, neat and a classic of men's and signet rings.

What is a gypsy setting?

In a gypsy (or flush) setting the stone is set down into the surface of the ring so its table sits level with, or just below, the metal. A star-shaped engraving around it is called a star setting.

History & why it matters

Hard-wearing and discreet, it was popular in Victorian gentlemen's rings and signet rings, and remains so for everyday wear.

What affects value

The stone and ring quality lead value; a crisp star setting and good engraving add appeal. Browse antique rings.
