Why the metal price is only part of the story
A lower silver price matters most for silver that is sold purely as metal. Much of the silver families own is worth more as an antique: a Georgian teapot, a Victorian card case, a canteen of cutlery or a signed piece by a known maker is valued for its maker, its date and its condition, not just its weight. And some of what looks like silver is silver plate, which has very little metal value at all.
