How it was found

The seller, a retired decorator who wishes to remain anonymous, bought complete sets on eBay in the 1990s for his son, and they stayed in the loft for about 15 years. The collection was initially valued at £250,000 before the sale.

Estimate against result
Pre-sale estimate (collection)£250,000

The wider market

Ewbank's called it the UK's most valuable trading cards auction, and its most successful sale in more than 30 years. The story was covered around the world in the days that followed.

Condition and completeness drive these results.
