The case behind the sale

On 15 August 2023 more than 400 police officers carried out coordinated raids across Singapore and arrested 10 foreign nationals. All 10 were convicted of money laundering and other offences, jailed for 13 to 17 months and deported, and 17 other suspects left Singapore during the investigation, IDEX reported. More than 1,000 luxury items were forfeited to the state. In July 2025 the police appointed Deloitte Singapore to manage and sell the remaining non-cash assets, and Deloitte appointed the auction house Hotlotz.

What is being offered

Hotlotz is running 15 online auctions between September 2026 and May 2027. The first dedicated watch sale has 13 watches in its preview, including a Patek Philippe 5270R-001 perpetual calendar chronograph in rose gold, a 5270P-014 in platinum with a green dial and a 5740/1G-001 Nautilus perpetual calendar in white gold, as well as a Vacheron Constantin Métiers d'Art Ajourée in white gold. The wider selection includes Rolex Submariners known as the 'Hulk' and the 'Starbucks'. Estimates had not been published when IDEX reported.

Provenance is part of what a buyer pays for.

Why provenance matters

A watch sold by a government after a criminal case comes with a documented chain of ownership, which is the reverse of the problem the trade usually faces: watches with gaps in their history. When you buy pre-owned, ask for the box, papers and service records, and check that the serial number has not been reported stolen.

If you are selling a watch

Keep the warranty card, receipts and service papers with the watch. They help any buyer show where it came from. Send us photographs of the dial, case back and papers for a free valuation.
