The Bulgari Pink: a 24 ct Pink Diamond Heads to Christie's Geneva
16 October 2026 · Mozeris Fine Antiques

A large pink diamond, mounted by Bulgari and kept by one family for more than seventy years, comes to auction for the first time.

In short

Christie's will offer the Bulgari Pink, a 24 ct emerald-cut diamond graded fancy intense pink and Type IIa, at its Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva on 10 November 2026. Christie's says the ring has been held by a European noble family for more than seventy years and has never been offered at auction. It is estimated at CHF 10m to 15m.

What Christie's is offering

Christie's announced in October 2026 that the Bulgari Pink will lead its Magnificent Jewels sale at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva on 10 November, as reported by National Jeweler. The stone is a 24 ct rectangular step cut, or emerald cut, diamond, graded fancy intense pink and classed as Type IIa. It is mounted as a ring by Bulgari. Christie's has estimated it at CHF 10m to 15m, and it will be on view in Geneva from 5 to 10 November.

A family stone, mounted in Rome

According to Christie's, the diamond has belonged to a European noble family for more than seventy years. Family history says the rough was bought in India in the 1950s by the present owner's great-grandfather and later entrusted to Bulgari, which mounted it as a ring. Christie's called Bulgari "a natural choice" for a stone of this kind at the time, when the Via Condotti shop in Rome was dressing the film stars working at Cinecittà.

Colour, size and chemistry rarely come together in one diamond. When they do, the stone stays in a family for generations.

What makes a pink diamond exceptional

Most diamonds are judged on how little colour they show. Pink diamonds are the reverse: the stronger and purer the pink, the rarer the stone. Grading laboratories describe the depth of colour with terms such as fancy, fancy intense and fancy vivid, and a large pink stone at the intense or vivid end is seldom seen.

Type IIa is a separate measure. It describes a diamond with almost no nitrogen in its crystal, a group Christie's puts at under 2% of natural diamonds. Many of the most famous diamonds ever found are Type IIa. Add a weight of 24 ct, a classic step cut that shows colour openly, a named maker and an unbroken family history, and it is clear why a stone like this leads a Geneva sale.

What this means if you own a coloured diamond

Few of us will handle a stone like the Bulgari Pink, but the same questions decide interest in any coloured diamond or signed ring: the colour grade and how it was established, whether the colour is natural, the weight and cut, the maker of the mount, and the paperwork that follows the piece. An old laboratory report, an original box or a receipt from a named house can all matter. Keep them with the ring, and have a stone checked before assuming anything about it, in either direction.
