  • Art Nouveau was a popular creative movement that thrived in Europe and North America between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The style was defined by elaborate and organic patterns, which were frequently influenced by natural shapes like flowers, vines, and insects. Art Nouveau's use of the feminine form as a decorative element, frequently represented in a stylized and sensuous manner, was one of its most defining characteristics.

During this period, Art Nouveau jewellery showing naked ladies was especially fashionable. Often, these rings depicted a lady in a flowing, curvilinear position, with her body and hair twisting and swirling organically. The figures were frequently rendered in a dreamy, stylized fashion, with stretched limbs and abstracted faces.

The nude lady rings of Art Nouveau were a symbol of feminine beauty and sensuality, and frequently symbolised the "new woman" ideal of the late 19th century. This ideal was exemplified by women who were self-assured, autonomous, and in charge of their own sexuality; Art Nouveau nude lady rings were a celebration of this new feminine ideal.
