United States Constitution Bicentennial silver dollar dated 1987, a commemorative coin in 0.900 fine silver struck for the two hundredth anniversary of the signing of the Constitution.
The Constitution was signed in Philadelphia on 17 September 1787. Both faces were designed by Patricia Lewis Verani, a New Hampshire sculptor chosen from an open competition.
The obverse sets a quill pen across a sheaf of parchment with the opening words We the People. The reverse gathers a cross section of Americans drawn from different periods of the nation's history, standing together behind the same phrase.
