A piedfort is struck on a blank of double the normal thickness, so this coin carries 56.56 g of sterling silver against the 28.28 g of the standard crown. The extra weight is obvious in the hand and is shown in the edge images.
The reverse by Danuta Solowiej-Wedderburn sets three herald trumpets hung with banners bearing the royal arms, the trumpets picked out in gold, with the legend Vivat Regina, long live the Queen, and the dates 1926 and 2006. The obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait.
The edge is lettered DUTY SERVICE FAITH. Edge lettering of this kind is applied in a separate operation from the striking and is used by the Royal Mint only on its more considered issues.
