New Orleans struck over nine million dollars in 1885, many of which sat in Treasury vaults for decades before release. The O mintmark sits below the wreath on the reverse, shown in the close up image.
The obverse carries Liberty in a Phrygian cap wreathed with cotton and wheat, designed by George T. Morgan, who came to the United States Mint from the Royal Mint in London. The reverse sets an eagle with outstretched wings above a wreath.
