Lewis and Clark Bicentennial silver dollar, a 2004 United States commemorative coin in 0.900 fine silver with the two explorers picked out in 24 carat gold, struck for the two hundredth anniversary of the Corps of Discovery.
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark left St Louis in May 1804 and reached the Pacific in November 1805, sent by Thomas Jefferson to find a route across the newly purchased Louisiana Territory and to record what was there.
The obverse shows the pair on a stream bank planning the next day's travel, Lewis holding his journal. The reverse carries the Jefferson Peace Medal the expedition presented to tribal leaders along the route, with clasped hands, a crossed pipe and tomahawk, and seventeen stars for the states in the Union at the time.
