Bald Eagle silver dollar, a 2008 United States commemorative coin in 0.900 fine silver with the eagle picked out in 24 carat gold, struck for the recovery of the national bird and the 35th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act.
The bald eagle was listed as endangered across most of the United States in the 1970s and was removed from the list in June 2007 after the population recovered. The Act that protected it was signed in 1973.
The obverse shows a bald eagle in flight low across a lake, with a wooded shoreline and a mountain behind. The reverse carries the Great Seal of the United States. Surcharges from the issue went to the American Eagle Foundation.
