Ancient Roman Coin, Ruby & 20KT Gold Multi Strand Necklace
A three strand necklace of polished ruby beads divided by 20KT gold spacers, centred on an ancient Roman bronze coin set in a plain high colour gold bezel, with a gold grape cluster drop beneath.
The coin is a late Roman bronze nummus of Constantius II, struck circa AD 347 to 348. The reverse reads VOT / XX / MVLT / XXX within a wreath, a vota inscription marking twenty years of rule completed and vows renewed for thirty. It is set so that both faces remain visible.
The mount and spacers are made in the high colour 20KT gold used for archaeological revival work, which sits deliberately close to the colour of ancient gold, and the drop is modelled as a bunch of six gold spheres.
