Mount Rushmore Golden Anniversary silver dollar, a 1991 United States commemorative coin in 0.900 fine silver with the four presidential heads picked out in 24 carat gold, struck for the fiftieth anniversary of the memorial.
Carving began in 1927 under Gutzon Borglum and finished in 1941. The heads of Washington, Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Lincoln stand about sixty feet high in the granite of the Black Hills of South Dakota.
The obverse shows the sculpture above a laurel wreath with the golden anniversary inscription. The reverse carries the eagle of the Great Seal over a map of the United States with the words Shrine of Democracy. Surcharges went to the memorial's restoration fund and to reducing the national debt.
