Atlanta 1996 Olympic Track and Field Silver Dollar 1995, US Commemorative Proof Coin
Atlanta Olympic Track and Field silver dollar dated 1995, a United States commemorative in 0.900 fine silver struck in proof for the centenary of the modern Games.
The 1996 Games in Atlanta marked one hundred years since the first modern Olympiad in Athens. The United States Mint spread the commemorative programme across 1995 and 1996, the largest it had produced for any single event, and the track events were struck in the earlier year.
The obverse by John Mercanti shows two sprinters at full stride across the lane markings, with the legend XXVI Olympiad. The reverse by William J. Krawczewicz carries the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games logo above a pair of clasped hands. The P mintmark above One Dollar marks the Philadelphia proof striking.
