Antique German Hanau .800 Silver Casket, Repoussé Putti, Gilt Interior, Dated 1924

£2,450.00

A German silver table casket in the Hanau manner, the hinged lid worked in high-relief repoussé with a group of putti among flowers within a beaded surround and a floral border. The canted-corner body is chased with rocaille scroll cartouches and rose swags, and the whole interior is gilded. Hanau, near Frankfurt, was the leading centre for this revived antique-style repoussé silver in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The front cartouche is engraved with the date 25.8.24, and the lid front carries an engraved monogram, so the casket carries its own dated provenance.
