The exterior is engraved with a noble coronet above a finely worked double “S” monogram, signifying aristocratic ownership. The locket opens to reveal a compartment with a photographic portrait of a lady on one side and a preserved lock of blonde hair under glass on the other, typical of sentimental or mourning jewellery of the period.

The reverse carries an inscription dated 28th December 1828 (slightly worn). The fitting bears a Hungarian assay mark (fox head), confirming its origin within the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
