A Victorian five stone ruby ring in 9KT gold, set across the finger with graduated oval natural rubies rising to a larger stone at the centre, approximately 2.50 ct in total.
Each ruby sits in its own claw collet, and the gallery beneath is pierced and carved with scrollwork that continues into the shoulders. Graduating the stones this way was the standard Victorian treatment for a five stone ring, and it makes a modest row of stones read as a single sweep across the hand.
The rubies show the warm pinkish red of Burmese and Thai material of the period, each one cut by hand so the ovals are not quite identical.
