Antique 18KT gold snake ring, two serpents crossing over the top of the finger, one head set with a garnet and the other with an old cut diamond.
The two snakes rise from a split shank and cross, their heads lying side by side across the front of the ring. One carries a round red garnet and the other a small old cut diamond, each star set into the gold so the stone sits flush with the head.
The snake, a symbol of eternal love when it coils on itself, was the most popular motif of Victorian sentimental jewellery after Prince Albert gave Queen Victoria a serpent engagement ring in 1839. This ring is a large size.
