Antique 14KT gold gypsy ring, a 0.50 ct rose cut diamond set flush into the front of a heavy tapering band.
In a gypsy setting the stone is sunk into the metal so its top sits level with the band, with no claws standing above it. Here the band swells at the front to hold the diamond and narrows towards the back, a plain, solid shape made to be worn every day.
The rose cut, flat beneath and faceted to a point above, was the usual cut for small diamonds before the brilliant took over.
