18KT Gold Carved Labradorite Satyr Ring with Diamond Eyes

£9,850.00

Carved labradorite satyr ring in 18KT gold, a grinning, bearded head with rose cut diamond eyes, set against an octagonal plaque of the same stone.

The head is carved in one piece with the plaque behind it, with deep curling hair, a broad nose and a beard cut in fine strands. Labradorite is grey and translucent, and as the ring turns, flat planes inside the stone flash a vivid blue, lighting up the plaque and the face in turn.

The satyr, the bearded woodland companion of Bacchus, was a popular subject for carved stone rings. The eyes are two rose cut diamonds in silver collets, and the head sits in a rubbed over gold collet on split shoulders with knop and leaf terminals.
