Vintage circa 1970s sapphire and diamond dome ring in 18KT white gold, an oval blue sapphire cabochon of approximately 23 carats rising from a pavé diamond surround of approximately 138 stones.
The sapphire is cut en cabochon and set high, so the dome of the stone and the dome of the mount read as one continuous curve. A single row of diamonds frames the stone at the top, and two further rows are pavé set around the sides of the head, carrying the diamonds all the way down to a broad, tapering polished shank.
