Victorian Diamond Foliate Spray Brooch, Silver Topped 9KT Gold, Approx. 2.50 ct

£3,450.00

A Victorian diamond spray brooch modelled as a spray of five slender leaves rising from a single stem, set throughout with 76 diamonds in mixed rose and old cuts, approximately 2.50 ct in total.

Each leaf is set with a graduated line of stones running to a point, with a larger diamond seated at the base of the leaf, so the spray reads as light travelling outward along every blade. The diamonds are set in silver over a 9KT gold back, the standard of the period, silver chosen to sit white against the stones and gold to carry the strength and the pin.

Mixing rose cuts with old cuts within one piece is characteristic of Victorian work, and it is what gives a brooch like this two kinds of light at once: the flat quiet shimmer of the rose cuts against the deeper fire of the old cuts.

It retains its original fitted leather case.
