Serpent bangle in silver and silver gilt, the whole body close set with multi coloured sapphires and rose cut diamonds, the snake coiling round on itself with its head raised over the tail.
The serpent is modelled in the round and set solid from nose to tail, so there is almost no plain metal to see on the outer face. The sapphires run through orange, orange red, red, pink, yellow and a pale violet, laid so that no two neighbouring stones repeat, and rose cut diamonds fill every gap between them. Two gold fangs show at the mouth. The interior is the part most people miss: the whole length is pierced as a gilt honeycomb lattice, open enough to see daylight through, which takes the weight out of a piece this size and makes it sit lightly on the wrist. A concealed hinge and tongue clasp let it open at the tail.
