A garnet cut as a smooth dome in this way is known as a carbuncle, and this one glows a deep wine red. Around it the rose cut diamonds sit in closed back collets, each edged with a coronet of tiny points, the setting of the period that lets the faceted domes of the roses catch the light. The back of the head is closed and plain, and the shank is 15KT gold.
