Edwardian 18KT gold natural ruby and diamond cluster ring, a 1.00 ct ruby circled by eight old European cut diamonds totalling 1.60 ct.
The ruby is an oval of rich purplish red, held in fine claws at the centre of a daisy cluster. The eight old European cut diamonds around it are set in white claws so they read bright and colourless against the gold, and the cluster stands on a pierced gallery above a slender shank stamped 18CT. Old European cuts, with their small tables and high crowns, date the ring to around 1900.
