An antique French 18KT gold signet ring, the heavy oval head intaglio engraved with a full coat of arms beneath a coronet. Early 20th century, and struck with the French eagle's head mark for 18KT gold.
The shield carries a chevron between three cinquefoils, cut deeply enough to strike a clean impression in wax, with the field behind hatched to throw the charges forward. The coronet above sits on a chased rim and is worked with raised points, the device used in French and English heraldry to indicate rank.
The ring weighs 18.2 grams, with a broad tapering shank that carries the weight of the head comfortably. The arms were cut by hand by a specialist armorial engraver.
