Antique 15KT gold banded agate ring, a marquise of layered agate set in a polished rubover bezel between reeded chevron shoulders.
The agate is cut so the layers show at the edge: a lilac white upper band lies over a carnelian red layer that rims the stone like a fine red line, with a flat polished table on top. The marquise bezel rises from a triple reeded split shank, each shoulder gathered by a pointed chevron mount where the ribs meet the head. 15 carat gold was a British standard from 1854 to 1932, which places the ring in the Victorian to early twentieth century period.
