René Kern, a distinguished German jeweller, founded his eponymous company in 1950 on Düsseldorf's renowned Königsallee. Hailing from a lineage of goldsmiths, Kern honed his craft under his father, Georg Kern, in Wiesbaden before establishing his own boutique. The brand quickly gained acclaim for its exclusive, handcrafted jewelry pieces that seamlessly blended classical elegance with contemporary design.
Throughout the mid-20th century, René Kern's creations attracted a prestigious clientele, including industrial magnates and royalty such as the Shah of Persia and King Hassan II of Morocco. The company's offerings were characterized by meticulous craftsmanship and the use of high-quality gemstones, resulting in unique and luxurious pieces.
In 1979, facing health challenges and without a familial successor, Kern sold his business to the British royal jewellers Mappin & Webb, part of the Garrard Group. The brand underwent subsequent ownership changes, being acquired by the Douglas Group in 1994 and later integrated into the Swiss family-owned Bucherer Group in 2007. Despite these transitions, the René Kern name remains synonymous with exceptional jewellery design and quality.
