A rare and whimsical example of late 19th-century animalier jewellery, this antique Victorian brooch is modelled as a leaping stag or reindeer, beautifully rendered in 9 karat rose gold with a silver front and set throughout with approximately 160 rose-cut diamonds. Each stone is individually bead-set in a pave-style arrangement, enhancing the lifelike texture and brilliance of the piece.
The brooch is constructed in hollow form with impressive three-dimensional depth, and fitted with a secure hinged pin and early clasp fitting to the reverse. The antlers and tail add expressive movement and bold silhouette. -
