Antique 19th century jewellery case in black leather, built to a sinuous shaped outline and opening to a contoured fitting cut for a suite of pieces.
Cases were made to the outline of the jewel they held, and this one follows a long waved shape from a broad head to a narrow foot. The pale silk-velvet fitting is cut with slots across its width and a long slit down its length, for a brooch, earrings and a longer piece, and the domed lid is lined in pale satin.
