Antique Johann Tresnak Vienna Green Brooch Presentation Box
An antique Austro-Hungarian jewellery presentation box retailed by Johann Tresnak, with addresses in Vienna and Karlsbad.
The rectangular case has a dark green exterior, a contrasting dark brown leather top and an ornate brass front fastening. It opens to reveal a cream satin-lined lid printed:
Johann Tresnak Juwelier Wien, Kärntnerstrasse Karlsbad, Alte Wiese 12
The fitted cream plush interior incorporates a central horizontal slot designed for a brooch, bar brooch, bracelet, watch or elongated jewellery ornament.
Johann Tresnak was a documented Viennese jeweller active during the 19th century. A surviving piece attributed to him has been dated to Vienna circa 1870, and he was also recorded in an international exhibition catalogue as a Vienna jewellery manufacturer associated with garnet jewellery.
The dual Vienna and Karlsbad addresses suggest that the business served an affluent Central European clientele, including visitors to the fashionable spa town of Karlsbad.
Dimensions -
Exterior: 13 x 6.5 cm
Interior capacity: Maximum Brooch Width or Length: Approximately 6cm
Condition :
Fair antique condition with extensive wear consistent with age. The green exterior displays heavy rubbing, scratches and losses to the surface finish, particularly around the edges. The brown leather top has substantial fading and abrasion. The cream satin and plush interior show discolouration, staining, compression and general age-related wear. The printed retailer’s details and decorative brass fastening remain present.
