A long antique jewellery presentation box by J.W. Benson Ltd, the celebrated London watchmaker, jeweller and silversmith formerly based at 62 and 64 Ludgate Hill.

The rectangular case is covered in dark blue leather with gilt tooled edging. It opens to reveal a cream satin-lined lid printed:

The base is lined in deep navy-blue velvet and incorporates a graduated channel, narrower at one end and wider at the other. This arrangement was designed to accommodate a ladies’ wristwatch, bracelet watch, flexible bracelet or similarly elongated jewel.

J.W. Benson was founded during the 19th century and became one of London’s most respected watchmaking and jewellery firms, operating prominently from Ludgate Hill.

Condition :
Fair antique condition with visible wear consistent with age. The dark blue leather exterior displays rubbing, scuffing, scratches and losses to the corners and gilt border. The cream satin lining has discolouration and age-related marks. The navy velvet base shows compression and impressions from previous use. The retailer’s branding remains clearly legible.
