Antique J. P. Davis Boston Leather Ring Box
A compact early-20th-century ring presentation box retailed by J. P. Davis, 25 Bargate, Boston.
The blue leather exterior has a rectangular form with rounded corners and a small brass push-button fastening. It opens to reveal a cream satin-lined lid printed with a crowned anchor emblem and the inscription:
Watchmaker to the Admiralty J. P. Davis 25 Bargate Boston
The lower section is lined in black velvet and provides an open fitted area suitable for a ring, small brooch, tie pin, cufflink or miniature jewel.
The crowned anchor emblem and “Watchmaker to the Admiralty” wording are particularly attractive surviving examples of historic retailer branding.

Interior capacity: Usable ring or jewellery area: Approximately 2.9cm
Condition :
Fair antique condition with visible wear consistent with age. The blue leather exterior displays rubbing, scuffing, surface losses and wear around the corners and edges. The cream satin lining shows discolouration and creasing. The black velvet base has light compression and signs of previous use. The retailer’s printed inscription remains clearly legible, and the push-button fastening is present.
