The large rectangular case is covered in dark brown to black leather with gently rounded corners and a brass push-button fastening. It opens to reveal a spacious cream satin-lined interior without fixed jewellery slots, making it suitable for displaying a necklace, jewellery suite, substantial brooch, pendant, tiara-style ornament or collection of coordinated pieces.

The satin lid carries the retailer’s printed details, including the J. Fontan name and Bordeaux address. Maison Fontan traces its history in Bordeaux to 1838, and the firm has long been associated with jewellery, watches and gemmology at the Allées de Tourny address.
