Below it the tray is shaped rather than plain: a long channel for a watch on its strap or bracelet, a lozenge recess for a brooch and a short slot for a ring, so the three pieces sit apart in one case. The outside is covered in a grey and cream mottled paper with a gilt line to the rim.
