A decorative antique French jewellery presentation box retailed by Fauveau-Bidet of Chartres.
The octagonal case has a gold-toned textured exterior embellished with delicate gilt floral scrollwork and tooled borders. It opens by means of a brass push-button to reveal a cream satin-lined lid printed “Fauveau-Bidet, Chartres” and a pale velvet fitted base.
The central shaped recess appears intended for a curved brooch, crescent jewel, pendant or similarly shaped ornament measuring up to approximately 3.8cm across.
Period cases bearing the Fauveau-Bidet name are documented with French silver and jewellery objects, including fitted cases from the beginning of the 20th century.

Condition :
Fair antique condition with wear consistent with age. The exterior displays rubbing, discolouration and losses to sections of the gilt decorative finish. The satin lining has age-related staining, creasing and loose fibres around the hinge. The pale velvet base is discoloured and compressed, with a visible impression from its original jewel. The hinge and push-button closure remain present.
