An impressive late 19th century Hanau silver presentation ewer executed in the English George III revival style. Raised on a circular pedestal foot, the piece is richly decorated throughout with finely chased scrollwork, foliate arabesques and stippled ground panels, closely imitating late 18th century English neo-classical silver.
The body is divided into horizontal decorative bands, each featuring detailed repoussé ornament including symmetrical scrolling foliage and classical motifs. The front panel is centred with a winged cherub mask framed by scrolling leaves, a design strongly associated with Georgian decorative vocabulary. The shaped pouring lip rises elegantly from the upper section, while the sweeping handle terminates in a sculpted classical bust, reflecting the antique Roman influence popular during the Georgian period.
