Christie's Marks 40 Years in Asia With Two Hong Kong Watch Sales
More than 300 watches, a single-owner collection and a pair of Patek Philippe grand complications shown together for the first time.
Christie's announced in mid October 2026 that it will hold two watch auctions in Hong Kong to mark 40 years in Asia: the Iconic 40 Watches Evening Sale on 25 November and the Important Watches sale on 26 November. Together they offer more than 300 watches, with a combined low estimate above HK$330 million, which Christie's says is its highest ever seasonal estimate for watches in Asia.
Two sales for an anniversary
Christie's is marking 40 years in Asia in 2026 with a year of sales and exhibitions across the region. For watches, that means two November auctions in Hong Kong during the house's Luxury Week: an evening sale called Iconic 40 Watches on 25 November, followed by the Important Watches sale on 26 November. Christie's says the two sales hold more than 300 vintage and modern watches, from Patek Philippe, Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, F.P. Journe and Richard Mille among others.
The Kronos collection and the Sky Moons
Both sales are led by watches from a single-owner group that Christie's calls Kronos: Titans of Time. The 23-watch collection made its debut in May 2026, and the remaining 18 pieces are offered in November. Christie's describes it as one of the most important single-owner watch collections it has ever offered.
The headline is a pair of Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillons, the white gold ref. 6002G and the earlier rose gold ref. 5002R, offered together at auction for the first time according to Christie's. Each has twelve complications across two dials, and Christie's says the 5002R is one of only 25 made. Coverage of the announcement put the evening sale's leading Sky Moon at a high estimate of HK$43 million. A second, pink gold Sky Moon follows in the day sale.
What else is on offer
Christie's lists early F.P. Journe pieces, including a platinum Tourbillon Souverain with a ruby dial and an early "Pre-Souscription" Chronomètre à Résonance, alongside gem-set Patek Philippe references, three Cartier Crash watches and a Cartier mystery clock. The mix reflects where demand at the top of the market sits: rare references, independents with tiny output, and watches with a clear history.
What it means for UK owners
Hong Kong is one of the big centres for the top of the watch market, alongside Geneva and New York, and results there feed into how dealers everywhere think about the same references. For most watches in a UK drawer, though, the questions are closer to home: what exactly the model and reference are, whether the dial and hands are original, whether the box, papers and service history survive, and how the case has been treated. Those facts decide how a watch is received, whichever saleroom or dealer you choose.
