This one is carried by the metalwork rather than by mass of colour. The navette plaque is pierced right through and worked into fine spokes that radiate from the centre to the two points, each spoke set with diamonds and outlined in milgrain, leaving as much open air as metal. An oval sapphire sits at the centre in a plain collet. Pierced work of this kind is what platinum made possible: no other white metal is strong enough to hold a setting this open.
