HISTORY:

Drinking from a peg tankard was common in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Tankards of this kind are distinguished by a set of pegs or other marks within the vessel that rise in tandem with the volume of liquid being put in.
The peg tankard has been around since the early 1700s, when it was widely used in public places and taverns. The tankard's pegs were used to accurately measure the quantity of beer or ale supplied to patrons, guaranteeing that they got their money's worth.
Peg tankards evolved into increasingly ornate vessels, often fashioned from silver or other precious metals.
They were greatly sought after as presents and heirlooms because of the exquisite patterns and inscriptions sometimes carved on them.
These days, silver peg tankards from the past are highly sought after by collectors, and they may sell for a pretty penny at auction. They are highly prized for their aesthetic quality and historical relevance.
