Cartier Rhapsodie 18KT Gold & Diamond Collar Necklace
A Cartier Collier Rhapsodie in 18KT gold, the collar built as a continuous tubogas coil and set across the front with three pavé diamond panels, a wide panel at the centre with a narrower panel to each side.
Tubogas takes its name from the Italian for gas pipe, and is made by winding gold strip around a core without solder, so the finished collar is smooth, flexible and hollow enough to wear comfortably at 49 grams. Cartier and its Italian contemporaries used the technique from the 1930s onward, and it returned to the Cartier catalogue through the 1970s and 1980s.
The necklace retains its original Cartier Paris certificate, numbered 904285 and dated 30 December 1989, issued by the Cartier boutique at 23 Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré in Paris. The matching serial is engraved on the clasp. Supplied with its original Cartier box and outer carton.
