An Art Deco platinum ring centred on a cabochon natural sapphire of approximately 4.00 ct, encircled by twenty two old cut diamonds.
The sapphire is cut as a high domed round cabochon in a deep blue, with the soft internal silk and gentle colour banding that comes with unheated material. Cut this way the stone reads as depth and colour rather than as sparkle, which is exactly why the Deco jewellers used cabochons against the hard brilliance of old cut diamonds.
The diamonds are set in fine millegrained collets around the bezel, and the platinum gallery beneath is pierced and open.
