An antique target ring: a disc of polished black onyx set flush into the head, with a single old-cut diamond in a millegrained white-metal collet standing at the exact centre, the bullseye that gives the style its name.
Black onyx makes a diamond look brighter than any white setting can, which is why the combination ran right through late Victorian and Edwardian jewellery and into the Deco period. The shoulders are modelled in relief with scrolled lobes rather than left plain.
15KT gold is a distinctly British standard, used only between 1854 and 1932.
