Accurate Gold Valuation

Gold Price Calculator UK

Estimate what we pay for scrap gold by weight and karat. Uses the same live spot feed and payout formula as our Sell Your Gold page — one guaranteed price per gram for each carat, updated with the market.

Gold Value Calculator
LIVE

Calculate the value of your gold items by karat and weight

Per-gram amounts are what we pay for scrap gold: live spot (GBP per troy ounce) converted to per gram, then × purity × our standard scrap payout multiplier — identical logic to the rate table on our Sell Your Gold and scrap gold price pages. Same rate whether items are scrap or pristine; designer jewellery and gemstones may be worth more after valuation.

Understanding Gold Prices in the UK

The gold spot price moves with global markets. We use the same live feeds and cache as our main Sell Your Gold page, then apply the same per-gram payout formula so numbers stay consistent across the site.

What Affects Gold Prices?

  • Global economic conditions - Uncertainty often drives gold prices higher
  • Currency fluctuations - The GBP/USD exchange rate impacts UK gold prices
  • Central bank policies - Interest rate decisions affect gold's appeal
  • Supply and demand - Mining output and jewellery demand influence prices

Spot price and what we pay

The manual field (and our live feed) use the gold spot price in GBP per troy ounce. The “we pay per gram” column is your scrap payout: spot converted to per gram, multiplied by carat purity, then by our standard scrap payout multiplier — the same rule as our Sell Your Gold page and scrap gold price page. There is no separate “scrap vs good condition” scrap rate.

  • Designer or branded jewellery — may be worth more than scrap after expert valuation
  • Gemstones — diamonds and coloured stones are assessed separately
  • Purity — we confirm carat with XRF; the calculator assumes the hallmark carat you select

UK Gold Hallmarks Explained

British gold jewellery is legally required to carry hallmarks if it weighs more than 1 gram. These marks tell you the purity and origin of your gold.

Karat Purity UK Hallmark Common Use
24KT 99.9% 999 Investment bars, coins
22KT 91.7% 916 / 22ct Asian jewellery, sovereigns
18KT 75.0% 750 Fine jewellery, luxury watches
14KT 58.5% 585 European jewellery
9KT 37.5% 375 Most UK high street jewellery

Tip: Look for hallmarks inside rings, on clasp tags, or on the back of pendants. A jeweller's loupe or magnifying glass helps spot these tiny marks.

Our calculator uses the same live gold data sources and refresh logic as our Sell Your Gold page. Per-gram payouts follow the same formula; your final offer is confirmed after professional XRF testing.

Spot is the wholesale benchmark for pure gold. Scrap jewellery is paid as a share of the gold content in each carat; we use the same fixed formula as our Sell Your Gold and scrap gold price pages (live spot × purity × our standard payout per gram) so you see one clear number, not a range.

No - we test all items using professional XRF analysis to determine exact purity. If you're unsure, just send photos and we'll provide an estimate. The final offer is confirmed after in-person testing.

Items with diamonds, sapphires, or other precious stones are valued separately. We assess both the gold content and the gemstones, often paying significantly more than scrap value for quality pieces with desirable stones.
